Why December Made Me Smile

by Justine posted December 30, 2011 category Monthly 2011

Saw a team of carolers pass by while I had dinner.

Went to see the Nutcracker by the National Ballet of Canada at Four Seasons.

Sat reeeeeally far up but I was still so excited and so happy!! My first ballet!! I had no expectations. It was still terrific!!

I love my wide angle lens for shots like these. This is inside the Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts.

Ornaments on the Swarovski tree at Toronto Eaton Centre.

My favourite glasses.

From afar, the Swarovski tree that Eaton Centre has every year. I swear, it looks bigger each year.

Zoomed in for a better look.

A reindeer! Wow.

Captured at a faster shutter speed. Love that reindeer.

Aaand another angle. So majestic.

Nathan Philips Square at dusk.

Me and my hands and face.

City Hall. I love the sky in this shot.

A gift! A gift! What could it beeeee??

A new wallet! Of course. I had been using the same childish one for years... about time!

Reading thoughtfully-written cards fill my heart with joy. Like, look at the JOY in my face right there.

My Christmas Tree. Lovingly decorated by my mother.

Right before a raging burst of laughter.

Putting on t-shirts that were largely abandoned throughout the year as a result choosing 'office friendly' attire.

Best Xmas gift ever! I can look at cats every day! (I'm allergic to cats but I love watching videos of cats!)

Bought this great hardcover book by the National Geographic. A lovely read with a latte beside my fake fireplace :D

Purchased this print by Kozyndan in 2007, and only got around to framing it today. Bought the frame from IKEA for only $2.99! It's so light and fantastic. I'm so happy it's finally framed so I can admire it every morning :) I know the frame and the poster itself is a little misaligned, but I like it that way!

Stairs banister lovingly decorated by my mother. I am reading on the steps! How fake. I don't read! HAHA

What started as an experimental project, turned out to be the greatest learning experience. Why [Month] Made Me Smile began in June as a way to be a more frequent and consistent shooter. Even though photography should be ‘natural’, a self-initiated push is still necessary. Even the most ‘unconscious’ of photography is taken with a motive, or an intention for the future. Conscious or unconscious, neither one is better than the other. Neither one is more ‘honest’ than the other. Photographers shoot, share, and preserve whatever they see and feel is right to them, at a particular point in time. There is no cut and dry explanation for why we take any course of action. As with anything in life, we act with whatever information we have available.

In 2012, there are limitless projects and opportunities and I am so excited to share them with you as they come along. I don’t really want to go into detail about what they are because I, myself, don’t know what they are called yet. I prefer to act and complete, then share and tell, than the other way round.

I am so grateful for everything that I got to experience. I appreciate all the support and wonderful people who reached out or returned the favour to help me grow and reach my goals. See you in 2012.
